The Young V&A has been granted the Art Fund Museum of The Year 2024.
The award of £120,000, the largest museum prize in the world was given in a ceremony at the National Gallery in London.
The prize will aid the Young V&A to continue with a local community programme that helps the country’s most deprived children. The organisation has said that they will continue to work all across the land with caregivers, artists, museum professionals and early years educators to extend the plan for growth in these niche areas.
Vick Hope, broadcaster and judge for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2024, said: “Young V&A is such a special and unique place, offering an experience for children (and their adults) like no other out there. The museum truly places young people centre stage, encouraging them to play, design and get creative through a fascinating collection of objects and artworks.”
The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, created this space for young people and their adults and intends to nurture its visitors’ creativity in a place where they can imagine, play and design.
There were five finalists for the awards and the others included: Craven Museum, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Manchester Museum and National Portrait Gallery.
